印象中 -

前幾天瀏覽過的新聞報導說
有些知名大學 都被鼓動
無奈的去註冊了 .xxx 的域名 -

套句老一輩人的話
這叫做 成何體統 ?!

照道理說

"使用者付費" 是放諸四海皆準 的行為法則;
現在「.xxx」管理局 在施行的確是 沒使用域名者也必須支付的 [ 不解析的「域名保護」 ] -
(當然也向 有使用 .xxx 的域名註冊者收費, of course)

Ohio colleges buy domain names to protect schools

Dec. 10, 2011

Some universities want to keep trademarks from becoming adult websites

As a red-light district forms this year in cyberspace using new .xxx domain names, universities and other groups are mulling strategies for keeping their trademarks from becoming adult websites.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers allowed universities, businesses and other organizations with registered trademarks to have first dibs in October at buying .xxx addresses that contain their trademarks. On Tuesday, ICANN opened up sales to the general public.

The .xxx domain is intended to identify pornography sites.

Ohio State University is one of several Ohio universities that picked up .xxx domain names. OSU bought 19 domains, and Ohio University bought three.

Quick searches revealed that the following schools also protected domains: Kent State University, Terra Community College, Oberlin College, Franklin University and Denison University.

Some schools did not, including Zane State College, Muskingum University, Marietta College, Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Bowling Green State University.

"We have had some issues in the past where people have used URLs containing our name for sites that were not appropriate and were not associated with the university," said Rick Van Brimmer, director of trademark licensing for OSU.

He said there is a resolution process through ICANN if the school's trademark is misused.

"This is preemptive," Van Brimmer said. "It's easier than going back and going through that process."

Trademark misuse is not a concern for Muskingum University, however, which did not buy any domains.

"Muskingum is a pretty generic name," said Jeff Zellers, dean of enrollment. "It could be Muskingum County, the Muskingum River, the Muskingum Sheriff's Office."

Zellers said he is not concerned that anyone will "hold us hostage" by buying a domain. "We haven't had much difficulty with people finding us," he said.
