It's official - Latin America to apply for .LAT domains
NIC Mexico and eCOM-LAC, the organisations in charge of getting a domain extension for Latin America have announced that .LAT is the TLD that they will apply to get for this region.
In order to pursue global promotion and recognition, and to continue the growth of the internet in the Latin American community, NIC Mexico and eCOM-LAC feel that .LAT is the perfect TLD to identify themselves with.
They will make the application for .LAT to ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), who will make a decision during the last quarter of 2008.
This application by Latin America follows closely the recent launches of .EU and .ASIA for Europe and Asia respectively.
About NIC Mexico
NIC Mexico is the organization that manages the country code TLD name .MX for Mexico. NIC Mexico also registers IP addresses for Internet users in Mexico.
About eCOM-LAC
The Latin American and Caribbean Federation for Internet and E-commerce (eCOM-LAC), is an Organization formed by different entities interested in efforts to ensure a proper regional representation in International forums, in addition to promote the growth of Internet in Latin America and the Caribbean.
